The integrated solar carpark at the Melaka Urban Transformation Centre was marked by a signing ceremony with state representatives and project partners in December 2025. The project converts existing parking roof space into a solar generation asset, which means new capacity without new land.
The initiative supports Melaka's low-carbon agenda, championed by Datuk Rais Yasin, State Senior Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management. It builds on earlier solar installations at UTC Melaka, adding an integrated carpark design that generates electricity while shading the vehicles beneath it.
Delivery involves Taha Cahaya Sdn Bhd, Melaka Green Technology Corporation, and Melaka Trust Fund Board. The system is expected to produce long-term electricity cost savings for the facility alongside its contribution to the state's decarbonisation targets.
The more interesting outcome is repeatability. Government facilities across Malaysia have the same underused roof space, and a design proven once at a public centre can be applied again without starting from a blank sheet.
